Who writes this site: Stéphane Robert, alone at the keyboard

Stéphane Robert

I write this site alone. There is no team behind it, no editorial staff, no paid proofreader: every guide, every lab and every quiz on this site goes through my hands. My name is Stéphane Robert, I have been a Principal DevSecOps Engineer at LINAGORA since September 2026, and I share here what I learn by practising.

Who am I?

I am around fifty, and I am the father of four children. I lived the great adventure of raising them largely on my own.

Outside DevOps tools, I love the mountains and cycling. I come from the east of France and I now live in Brittany, after moving often to follow projects. What I like best is taking on a challenge, then sharing what I got out of it.

Where I come from: from boilermaking to DevSecOps

My path is anything but linear. I am a boilermaker by training, yes, one of those who wield the hammer: I passed every diploma, from the CAP to the BTS, the French vocational qualifications. I do not see it as an accident along the way, but as an essential part of my story.

Programming then led me to university, up to a master's degree in computer-aided design and manufacturing and then a DEA, a postgraduate research degree, in automated production, focused on Lean. You can see why the DevOps philosophy speaks to me so much. During those years, I paid for my studies by working in industrial building construction.

I started my career on computer-aided design tools, CATIA, CADDS and Pro/E, mostly for automotive products. I was a project manager, a trainer, head of IT for a design office, then a consultant, notably at DCNS, now Naval Group, in Cherbourg.

I left that position to become an integrator in the banking sector. That is where I started to automate repetitive, low-value tasks, and where my passion for DevOps was born.

What I do today

For more than ten years, I have worked on very different DevOps projects, and the guides on this site draw on that field experience:

  • Virtualisation: design and management of VMware infrastructures
  • API development: Python APIs for automation
  • Infrastructure as Code: Ansible modules and roles for networking and CI/CD pipelines
  • DevOps evangelism: four years supporting DevOps transformations
  • Sovereign cloud, at Outscale (in French) until August 2026: training content and customer support
  • Since September 2026, at LINAGORA: DevSecOps engineering on open source environments

Day to day, I work with Terraform, Ansible and Puppet, on Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL), with Docker, Kubernetes and K3s, in Python and Go, and on GitLab CI, GitHub Actions or Jenkins pipelines.

How I write each page

I test before I write. Every procedure is replayed in a lab or on my homelab whenever the environment can be reproduced. When it cannot, for want of hardware or a licence, I check the guide against the official documentation and the release notes, and I say so on the page.

When something breaks during my tests, I keep the failure in the guide, with the exact error message and the way out: it is often what you will be looking for. I give the version of the tools I used, and I revise a page when the tool evolves, updating its modification date.

Working alone has a consequence: an error can slip past me. At the bottom of every page, the "Something wrong on this page?" box sends me your report, already filled in with the page's address. It comes straight to me, and it is the best help you can give me.

Why this site exists

I want to make deep technical knowledge accessible to the French-speaking community, without locking it behind an account or a subscription. Everything is free: the guides, the courses, the quizzes and the labs. A part of the site is also translated into English.

The site shows no advertising and accepts no sponsored content without saying so. It lives on its readers' support and on a few affiliate links to the books and equipment I genuinely recommend, always marked as such. If this site helps you, you can support it.

Contact me

For a question, a topic suggestion or a collaboration, write to me directly. I am the one who answers; there is nobody else.

Is this project useful to you?
